I shudder every time I think about the District 2 race. Sarnoff unfortunately has this one in the bag. Too many people running and splitting up the vote.
ReplyDeleteMrs Sarnoff hardly has the race "in the bag". 59 years old and no community service to show for it? No experience? Months of fighting off her husband's detractors? Success is not likely.

- Eager to partake in the twiated political system of juicy RFP's.
- Willing to give and receive special "favors".
- Delighted to work with all Developers and their generous lobbyists.
- Demonstrated ability to say all the politically correct crap at a moment's notice.
Wow. Maybe it's the citizens of Coconut Grove that are all messed up, not so much the politicians. Hmmm.

ReplyDeleteYou may recall the 2000 presidential election when the candidates included George W. Bush (GOP), Al Gore (Dem.) and Ralph Nader (Green Party). For those disenchanted with both major parties , they felt good casting their vote for Nader. But that euphoria was soon lost when they realized that W won by a slim margin of 537 votes. Needless to say Nader will forever be known as the “Spoiler” that helped elect W.
District 2 Commissioner race is facing a similar scenario. Some citizens will feel great about voting for Mike Simpson or Rosa Maria Polamino. But I guarantee they will be most unhappy if Teresa Sarnoff gets elected and inherits her husband’s office, chief-of-staff, polices and developer pals.
There is no doubt that Mike and Rosa truly care about our community and really don’t want another Sarnoff at City Hall. They should indeed voice their concerns and express their vision for our future. It would be in District 2’s best interest by offering their support to the most qualified and deserving candidate Grace Solares or risk the chance of forever being known as “Spoilers”.

This is the same thing as saying:
"My candidate is not good enough so I need yours to drop out."
Forget about it.
We live in a district that has over 41,000 registered voters. In the 2011 District 2 race for commissioner a total of 4,667 voted of which the incumbent commissioner won with 2,456. This lack of engagement fosters our political environment, where only a few voices engage in the discourse of the dialogue and determine its outcome. Ten percent of the electorate grant the special interests on both sides the power to define the vision and purpose of our dynamic district. With the engagement of more constituents, diverse ideas flow and measures are implemented based on our collective interests.
