Grove Isle developer awaits demo permits

The Grove Isle project developers, Grove Isle Associates, have had some good news regarding their plans for the island. They have put in a request for a demolition permit for 4 Grove Isle, the hotel and environs, in order to put in a five story structure. The City of Miami's Zoning administrator has determined that the latest proposal is consistent with its zoning regulations as Miami21. They are just awaiting the permit.

The new plan is to wrap one end of the island in a horseshoe shape as shown here.

Grove Isle residents are appealing this through their lawyers as if December 31, 2014. The five stories is much less than the orignally planned 18 story tower, which did not match the existing three towers currently on the island. Residents feel that the project will "substantially damage values and amenities" for residents of the island. Above is the original plan for an out of place building.

 While five stories is not very high, 62 condos are planned for that structure. 

 If this is allowed to occur, many believe that will open the door for major construction in the North Grove, which is mostly low-rise houses now. Greed is running rampant.

    The new development on Grove Isle is not a good idea. However, the new condos will certainly increase property values of the current residences.

    I do not see anything wrong with this one. Is it any type of construction that you won't oppose and call it greedy? You are very predictable!

    Get your head out of the sand. Getting the materials and removing the debris on and off the island will be a nightmare. Do they plan to use barges or the 2 lane bridge? Where do the workers park? Not to mention the construction that will be going on with the Bayshore Drive (improvement?)project.

    The more concrete, the more people, the better. High-rises, whatever, as long as some developers get filthy rich. Traffic will continue to improve, that's for sure.

    The “Good News” is that all these condo towers will eventually help our economy by attracting many divers from around the world, when the sea-level rises and they inadvertently become artificial reefs.
