Toastmasters celebrates 90th anniversay

Toastmasters Clubs around the world will celebrate Toastmasters’ 90th anniversary with special meetings. Locally, Grove Gables Toastmasters, which meets at The Peacock Garden Café (2889 McFarlane Road) Mondays at  noon, will host a special themed meeting and presentations on Oct 20. The event is free to the public and lunch specials start at $13.

Through improved communication and leadership skills, millions of men and women have become better speakers and leaders since 1924, when founder Dr. Ralph C. Smedley held the first meeting in a basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California.

Kristy Moore Hernandez of  Coconut Grove has been a member of  Grove Gables Toastmasters for 18 months. She credits Grove Gables for helping her to  overcome crippling stage fright, which hindered her ability to give an effective talk. “Since joining Grove Gables Toastmasters, I have overcome the stage fright and now find it exciting to give a well prepared speech,” says Kristy.

Nancy E. Maidique of Coral Gables has been a member of  The Grove Gables Toastmasters for 8 months. She credits the club for helping her hone her communication and leadership skills. “Since joining Grove Gables, I have learned to embrace my personal style, express my natural abilities, and focus on areas of improvement,” says Nancy.

Skarley Guerrero  of Miami has been a member of The Grove Gables Toastmasters Club  for two years. He has been a member and club officer,  he  credits the club for helping him to improve confidence when speaking in front of a crowd and develop better listening skills. “Since joining, I have been able to address an audience of more than 50 people with poise and effectiveness,” says Skarley.

The general public is invited to visit a meeting and learn more about what Toastmasters has to offer. Please contact  Kristy Moore Hernandez  at  305-807-2121 for more information.
