Changing traffic patterns

Residents are concerned about the traffic closures around the Grove. Work coming up on Tigertail Avenue, related to the large SW 27 Avenue project, will rerout traffic onto Mary Street up until the end of June. Neighbors are concerned that traffic patterns will be set and drivers will start using Mary Street as a throughway even after the Tigertail and SW 27th Avenue projects are completed.

"The closures are necessary to implement the different components of the project, from tree root trimming and transplanting to the installation of  water and drainage systems. An evaluation of the Maintenance of Traffic plan indicates that the nearest parallel roadways to the project, including Mary Street, are the most efficient detour routes for traffic along SW 27 Avenue," said Bassam Moubayed, CFM, Chief, Construction Division Miami-Dade County, Public Works  and Waste Management Department.

Two Variable Message Signal( VMS) boards will be added at McDonald Street (SW 32 Avenue) at the intersections of Oak and Bird Avenues to advise motorists of the construction ahead and to seek alternate routes.

Recently business owners on Bird Avenue had a meeting with the city, they were concerned about their traffic patterns or lack of them when work starts on the Bird Avenue beautification project. The project was to start during this summer of 2014, but the city agreed to delay the project until the summer of 2015. Either way, it's going to be the next mess in the Grove after the SW 27th Avenue project is complete. But in the end, these messes will be beautiful roadways.

People are beginning to complaint about proposed traffic "patterns or lack of them", so here we go again, damn if we improve and damned if we don't! Sound off, one, two, three, four, sound off!

I wouldn't expect that traffic will be re-routed up Virginia Street or across Shipping Avenue anytime soon. I expect that the traffic calming device at Shipping and Virginia a/k/a Sarnoff Circle will be expanded to become a circular doggie run or that Virginia will soon be transformed into a long-desired pedestrian mall. We'll see.

Please note that 27th avenue traffic is about as it was before the roadwork began.

Whomever picked and planned for Mary St to be the "Detour" route SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!

SHAME ON YOU, MIAMI OFFICIALS!!

DONT WALK OR BIKE ON MARY ST. ITS DANGEROUS!!!

1> There is NO CONTINUOUS SIDEWALK for pedestrians! Pedestrians must WALK IN THE STREET for large portions between Bird and Day Ave!

2> There are no "Pedestrian Crosswalk" markings at ANY Intersection between Bird Rd and Oak.

3> This is a highly pedestrian route. Due to all the construction on 27th, People use Mary to walk from the Metrorail to the Grove. Not to mention all the local residents who walk their dogs, kids in strollers, etc.

4> No signage was placed to tell motorists to SLOW DOWN! PEDESTRIAN CROSSING!! KIDS AT PLAY!! only Detour signs!
In my opinion this is PITIFUL!!!!!

5> Poor Lighting at night!!!! Have you seen Mary St at night. ITS DARK! because of the overgrown trees blocking streetlamps. Mix that with speeding cars and people walking in the streets because there is no continuous sidewalk. We have at least 1 cat fatality a week on Mary....its only a matter of time before something worse happens.

6> This is a marked "Share Road" Bike Route. Bikes and speeding cars don't mix!

I think this "Detour" route was developed on a cocktail napkin over a pricey lunch!
IF YOU'RE GOING TO CHANGE THE TRAFFIC ON A STREET FOR 5 MONTHS AT LEAST DO SOME PREP WORK!!

Any roadway routing/detours depend 100% on all citizens: those walking, driving, bicycling, skateboarding, pushing baby carriages and walking dogs. And if you take the time to observe all of them doing their thing you'd note that a larger % of them have no respect for anyone doing anything other than their selfish interest & those on their cell phones could care even less, so buyer beware. It is your responsibility to stay out of their line of fire/influence!
