Jazz in the Garden featuring Joe Donato

Coconut Grove's Plymouth Congregational Church will be hosting "Jazz in the Garden" again on Sunday, February 23. The event raises money for the United Negro College Fund.

This is the church's third annual effort to support the fund and to honor Miami-Dade's chapter of the National Pan-Helenic Council. The group supports our country's traditional black colleges and universities.

The ""Jazz Brunch" begins at 11 am. The Joe Donato Jazz Band will play with featured vocalist, Brenda Alford.  Both have enthralled South Florida audiences for years. There will also be an art exhibit by Sophia Lacroix.

The jazz brunch began in 2012. In the first two years it has raised over $32,000 for the UNC Fund. The organization was created in 1944 to assist college-bound African American students. It funds scholarships for approximately 70,000 students attending 900 universities every year.

The public is invited to enjoy the brunch and music from 11 am until 1 pm. Tickets will not be sold but donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have not been to events at Plymouth, it is really a treat. The relaxed, green atmosphere is full of history as well as charm. It's really a treat to visit.

Plymouth Congregational Church is at 3429 Plymouth Road, just a few blocks south of the Playhouse off of Main Highway.
