The demise of local favorites

A friend asked me if all the news spreading around different publications about the waterfront plan is good or bad, I assumed it was good since more eyes are seeing the story.

She sent me the link to Curbed, which did a great story called "Should Coconut Grove's Organic Mod Chart House Be Saved?"

And also there's a blog called "Uncommon, Musings of an Uncommon Mom," written by Rebecca Madan. She did a great story called, "Unfixing the Future," on the demise or maybe demise of Scotty's Landing. She also talks about the demise of so many other South Florida icons. Here's her article.

The Chart House story is interesting in that they describe it's mid-century modernistic architecture. My family used to go there for many special occasions -- birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc, only because the person being honored requested it, which almost everyone did.

Love this part of Rebecca's story on the waterfront project "Vote on November 5 for a new Mayor. This is Miami, vote twice." This sums up a lot of the problems. We voted "NO" on something in our neighborhood and a few years later the City figured out away to circumvent the vote. Nothing would surprise me!

If you want to see what a modern renovation looks like of a historically Old Floridian then look at Rusty Pelican. No trees. All chrome. No buffet anymore, either. There is no respect for the old anymore in the City of Miami.

The more you hold onto the past, the more you will suffer. The past is gone and there's only the future to look forward too. Sorry but this is how life works...things change.
