Out with the old, in with the new

After all these years, a Coconut Grove institution is closing -- Yucky's on Main Highway is leaving. The owner is retiring and so is the business.

Tourists often ask the Grove ambassadors about Yucky's which is famous for being one of the oldest and original head shops.

Had lunch at Acropolis Greek Taverna today. Everything was excellent, the food, service and staff. I highly recommend it.

Tonight, May 8, is their grand "OPA-ning" party, stop by for a drink and some samples and enjoy the atmosphere. Deano Kastis, General Manager and his staff are really great people and a great fit for the neighborhood. The lunch crowd was large today and that seems to be the case daily, with lunch and dinner.

The party tonight starts at 6 pm. Acropolis is at 3484 Main Highway.

Damn, how many years has Yucky's been open? Someone should buy the business.

A Grove staple. Glad to hear that this place died of old age and not of "The Grove Cancer". However, the truth is...this place was outdated and the current staff wasn't that helpful. You could tell the management just kinda stopped putting in the effort required to make this place work. On a brighter note the new guys at "El Taquito" next door are awesome. Carryout is always fast and as they say the hole in the wall joints are the tastiest (the enchilada verde is great). It would be phenomenal if someone setup a vapor or e-cig shop in the yucky's spot...keep the bohemian spirit alive in the Grove (if this works out I want my check in the mail).

Not sure if you all have been keeping up with the legislature up in Tallahassee, but they are on their way to ban the sale of bongs in Florida. I am sure that the people at Yucky's are well aware of this. It's funny how the rest of the country is getting more liberal on this issue, but Florida is getting more conservative.

That because most of the drugs still come in through florida and can you imagine how much money these politicians here in miami make everytime they bust these people bringing illegal stuff in.please its all about the money

Very Brainy legislature, if bungs are banned then drug pushers are going to sell them and make even more money or it will become a DIY product. The legislature should use the analogy for assault weapons, it is not the bung that makes you high, it is the one who inhales.

Not sure if most of the drugs of this country come in through the state of Florida, my guess would be more through the United States-Mexico border. Do you have any source for this, or did you just make that statistic up?
