You'll step into another world at The Olfactory
The Olfactory Company opened Saturday at Florentine Plaza (3444 Main Highway), right next to Danny's Revolution Bicycle shop. Step in and you're in another time and place. Owners, Mark Rojas and Jennifer Church, above, have really made this a special place. It reminds me of those turn of the century places (the 1900s) that you see in movies like Hello, Dolly and The Shop Around the Corner.
It's like the Grove has it's own little general store. Brothers, Samuel Armstrong (left) and James Armstrong are part of the family at The Olfactory, too. Olfactory has to do with the sense of smell, but I think the sense of sight really takes over here as there is so much to see and enjoy. Emporium, that's the word to describe it.
I had to laugh when I saw the great big tree in the center of the store. They appreciate trees here, even though it's fake.
There is lots of old fashioned candy and chocolate, things you'll remember from your childhood. And lots of soaps and teas and so much stuff. You could spend a long time in there looking at everything, and hopefully buying lots of it, too. You'll even be rung up on an old early 1900s cash register to complete your turn of the century experience.
Lots of hand-made wooden toys take up one back area, near the ice creams and sodas.
The store really has something for everyone. I think tourists and locals alike will enjoy this new place. I'm hoping everybody stops by to check it out. A lot of work and thought went into The Olfactory and we wish them well. They're open daily and can be reached at 305-444-5010.
