First Slice 'n Ice left their long-time SW 27 Avenue location and now it's E-Z Kwik's turn to leave, after 40 years in that location! Slice 'n Ice has now opened in the Quick Stop on Grand Avenue in Center Grove. A major problem was the easement issue, where E-Z Kwik's parking area is supposed to be claimed by the SW 27 Avenue expansion project, that was the issue with Slice 'n Ice, where most of their coral building front was in the easement.
Flanigan's (the Loggerhead), bought E-Z Kwik. They plan on making it their liquor store and also add lots of parking in the process. Now that the Parking Authority claimed the land all around Flanigan's on Bird Avenue, it's annoying to Flanigan's regulars, so to accommodate them and to accommodate their ever-expanding business, the new location is part of the plan.
It's interesting to note that Flanigan's is packed constantly. While E-Z Kwik has been an institution, it really has gone downhill over the years, although as far as I can remember it's always been called "Sleazy Kwik" by the locals.
wow--E Z Kwik just renovated the front with a new paint job , new tiles and and added a cute sandwich counter...I had high hopes. How is a LIQUOR store going to be an improvement? Seems like a step backwards. They should name it "The Brown Paper Bag"
ReplyDeletewell this makes sense, flanigans can then remodel the restaurant to add more seats/bar area, expand their dire parking situation, and grow their business.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the parking situation and and around Flanigans. It is beyond horrible. I sometimes visit an office in the little building immediately to its west and finding parking around that area is a crap shoot. That tiny building only has 6 parking spots, one of which is a handicap spot and the meters out front are always occupied.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Flanigans is going to add more parking. Any idea where its going to go? Perhaps that empty lot to the north of E-Z Kwik?

ReplyDeleteYou can see that Flanny's has already started the process to use that empty lot space that was apparently owned and unused by easy quick as additional parking. They cut a section of their wall out from the parking lot to allow for quick ingress and egress from that parking area. Flanny's is probably the best run, most profitable business in the grove. It's packed all day and night. It also benefitted greatly from Sarnoff killing center grove bars, and it's been extra busy late night ever since.
