Linda's lies

This is a Response to Linda Haskin’s Negative Mailer

Linda Haskins has been sending mailers that are 5% fact and 95% lies.

Re: Mailer Received Nov 18th from Linda Haskins Campaign titled “Marc Sarnoff”

1. Linda Haskins sends a mailer (received Nov 18th) which states…”Neighborhood Payoff?” Linda Haskins quotes “Miami SunPost”…

“It’s (Mercy Hospital Condos) a good project whether some got paid to accept it or not…” -“Miami SunPost”, 05/04/06

What “Miami SunPost” actually stated Marc said…i.e. the full quote…

“It’s a good project whether someone got paid to accept it or not and it should stand on its own merits.”

2. Linda further attempts to deceive voters. Haskins quotes “Miami SunPost” …

Her headline… “His Plan to End Traffic Congestion?” And her quote…

“At the end of the day traffic and a dollar in your pocket is not going to change that.” “Miami SunPost”, 05/04/06

What “Miami SunPost” actually stated Marc said… i.e. the actual full quote…

“At the end of the day traffic and a dollar in your pocket is not going to change that. This is something we need to think about and stop right now.”

3. In the same mailer Linda Haskins states…”His Plan to Build Affordable Housing?”… “HE HAS NO PLAN!” Linda Haskins quotes http://www.marcsarnoff.com/ as follows…

“Because developers cannot make money building affordable housing…”

What Linda Haskins failed to disclose was the next 25 words of that sentence… The actual sentence reads… i.e. the full quote taken off the website…

“Because developers cannot make money building affordable housing unless 25% of more of the costs are paid by you and I, the taxpayers, and the housing is practically given to low-income people.”

And the next sentence…also from the website…

“And unfortunately the people responsible for giving out tax dollars to create affordable housing give the money to their friends and colleagues, resulting in a house of lies.”

Marc actually gave a correct definition of affordable housing. Linda Haskins choose to distort Marc’s sentence and not disclose 25 words. (check http://www.marcsarnoff.com/ for yourself.) Linda Haskins took Marc’s sentence out of context as she attempts to deceive the voters for her personal gain.

4. In the same mailer Linda Haskins states… “His Plan for Parks and Greenspace?” Haskins states…He lobbied for a dog park to be built across from his private law firm so his private clients could park.

This statement from Haskins has many fallacies.

The park Haskins refers to is a public park. It houses a dog park and a separate area for children. It has several parking spaces on its west and south sides. There are fewer spaces now then there were before the park was constructed. These parking spaces are entirely public. It is a beautiful neighborhood park. Many people would call it a “pocket park” or a “small neighborhood park”. Since Miami ranks 55 out of 55 in park space per capita it would be wonderful if we had another 100 such parks. We could use at least 20 such parks in each District. For that we need leaders with vision.

Who can we trust?

Vote for Marc Sarnoff on Nov 21st.

The idea of more park space is terrific, in principle, and a principle that I generally support, but how is it going to work in reality? Wouldn't the city have to use a very aggressive eminent domain power to acquire new green space? Wouldn't that tie up millions in litigation and buy-out costs, not to mention the loss of tax-generating developed property?

Has Marc said anything about how he would achieve this?

Well now we know how Linda Haskins is spending her massive campaign war chest funded by developers, contractors and construction material suppliers. Interestingly, only 6% to 8% of Haskin's donors actually live in Dist 2. Once this crowd paves every plot of land where will the residents go to find a park?

We are still waiting for Haskins to explain why she uses a taxpayer paid SUV and a taxpayer paid driver to take her to her campaign events. Didn't her handlers tell her she voted for a $13 Mil budget deficit.

And yes, Marc explained in detail how we could fund parks. And Marc is opposed to eminent domain unlike the City administration which used eminent domain several times to put long time Miami businesses out of business.

Yes.

The City recently announced new impact fees to be used to acquire new park sites. Several sites are already under consideration. The City controls the collection of impact fees and the acquistion of property.

How will Haskins reduce our taxes if she shows so little respect for us she demands a taxpayer paid car and driver 24/7? To attend campaign events?

The City recently announced new impact fees to be used to acquire new park sites.

I'm sorry, but this is really vague. Do you mean that the City is already implementing Marc's plan, or is he thinking of something else that's not currently on the table. If it's the former, what does Marc bring that's new? If it's the latter, then your response doesn't answer my question.

Also, where do the impact fees come from if the City hasn't been collecting them already? Is this going to be like another fire fee fiasco? And how does the City "acquire" park space without either (a) purchasing it on the open market; or (b) using eminent domain to force the issue?

The City was responsible for collecting impact fees. As CFO Linda Haskins was responsible for collecting this money. It was reported that certain developers did not have to pay. Did you notice many developers contributed to Haskin's campaign?

The City recently raised the impact fees. The money, if it gets collected, is supposed to be used to acquire new park land. No eminent domain is required. There are sites available. Marc Sarnoff opposes eminent domain.

Yes, the fact that Linda Haskins never demanded the impact fees be collected from everyone will likely become another Diaz fiasco.

Why is Linda Haskins using a taxpayer paid car and driver to campaign? Deficit?

Why did Haskins have to use such deceptive tactics with her attack ads? Was she trying to deceive the voters?

I don't believe the city will use any money to buy parks. In fact we have the lowest ratio of park space per square foot, per person in the nation. Since we weren't in compliance, it was cut in half and new rules made. Sound familiar? Make it up as you go along. For instance our parks are uses as parking lots.

If you look at parks on a city map and actually drive around to each "park" you will find it is not a park at all. But has been purloined for some other purpose.

Look what just happened at Metro Zoo. Our park land was given to a developer to build a hotel and water theme park. I'm not against hotels or water theme parks, but I am against using land that belongs to taxpayers for private enterprise.

It is my understanding some "Parks" in the city are actually on the roofs of buildings.

I wonder what will happen to Haskins when this campaign is over?

After the way she's lied and prostituted herself for Diaz, Home Depot, developers, etal., no one in District 2 respects her. So no matter the outcome if she wins, perish the thought, she still loses. She has betrayed the residents of District 2 and has no standing.

We need a man who knows how to work, an independant thinker to protect us from the likes of Haskins and her ilk. VOTE SARNOFF

It appears Marc has done quite well. It also appears Haskins outspent Marc by 6 to 1. In fact, Haskins probaly spent $500,000 more than Marc.

Many voters, white, Black, Hispanic all like Marc.

Hold up on those calculations until you add in the money for Marc that was laundered through the Democratic Party and the unions who will now demand a return on their investment in the form of Marc's support for budget-crushing benefit packages and pensions that will drive all our property taxes even further into the stratosphere!

Interesting questions.

We are waiting for the Haskins Campaign to explain where the $729,000 she collected went? What favors were promised? How come Haskins got so few votes?

And how much did it cost the taxpayers having City workers on city time work the polls? For Haskins? And why did Haskins use a city owned SUV and a city paid driver taking her to campaign events? Value? And who paid for all the turkeys Haskins gave out in the West Grove? Haskins wasn't asking for votes as she handed over free turkeys was she?

It is the City Manager who is responsible for contract talks.

What was the financial benefit to Haskins getting the Herald endorsement? And didn't the Herald getting $190 Mil for its land depend on a zoning change? Moved and pushed by Haskins?

And would not Haskins $200+ Mil "streetcar to nowhere" lead to an increase in taxes?

We are waiting for answers.

All such questions are moot now that Haskins has returned to civilian life.
It is Commissioner Sarnoff who must be held to account.
And NO, the city manager is NOT in charge of employee contracts. He provides staff support for the negotiation process but it is the City Commissioners who make the deal with the unions. What happens when the taxpayers are being represented by at least one Commissioner who is totally indebted to the employee unions? Can we expect fairness? An open mind? A tough negotiator? What will the unions do if Sarnoff betrays them? Will they support him if and when he runs again in just one year? What would you do if YOU ran the union? How will that thought influence Commissioner Sarnoff?

To anonymous (Seth) above who wrote...

"All such questions are moot now that Haskins has returned to civilian life."

Are all such questions moot? Don't you think the Florida Election Commission will be interested in how Haskins used City workers on City time to work the polls for her? Won't the FEC be interested in the many campaign violations in Haskins last filing? Conflicts of interest? What about the contributors with no addresses? The contributors who contributed over $500? The consultant checks for media buys? Haskins use of a city owned SUV and driver? On and on...

Do you really think those questions are all "moot"?

Ask Spence-Jones how she feels looking at $80,000 in fines from the Florida Election Commission for her behavior in the Nov 2005 election? And ask Spence-Jones how she expects to pay her massive legal fees defending herself from the charges? How will Spence-Jones pay those fines?

We would all like answers to those questions.

Perhaps you should be helping Haskins with her defense instead of taking potshots at Marc Sarnoff?

I would just like to quote Haskins husband on why she lost the election. "She's just too fucking honest."

Amazing. I guess love is blind.

Haskins just received $729,000 from developers, contractors and companies doing business with the City of Miami. Would not that massive amount of money cause a conflict should she become the CFO again? Isn't it possible she would end up across a table from her biggest campaign contributors? Let's avoid all "conflicts of interest". Let's avoid all appearences of a "conflict of interest". Remember the Herald rezoning fiasco?

It is December 29th, 2006. Linda Haskins just got hammered by the Miami Herald. The Herald actually wrote an editorial blasting her decision to pay $25,000 in bonuses to her staff/campaign workers.

She looks like an idiot.
