Peacocks in the park

There is an idea kicking around about: Peacocks in the Grove. They would be painted peacocks just like the Gables did with flamingos and little Havana with chickens. I remember the cows in New York years ago, all parts of the city had the funky painted creatures. It really was fun thing.

The thoughts on the peacocks is that local artists would paint the larger than life sculptures and they would be displayed all over the Grove. When sold at the end, the money raised would benefit Grove artists and possibly other Grove things.

As mentioned in the post, this concept has been around for a long time now, and has popped up in numerous cities and communities, including many here is South Florida.

While I support the intention of supporting our local artists by raising their profile and funding, I can't help but think that this is the wrong way to do it. The Grove is a special, unique, and creative community, and as such should lead an artistic trend, not follow it.

Certainly we can come up with a funkier, splashier, and more UNIQUE way of marketing our artists than following this dated trend of dressing up birds. Not to mention that the "peacock" as a symbol of the Grove is a rather weak connection, the name of a park aside. Any ideas?

Let me know when y"all decide. I think this was discussed ohhh, 5 years ago. Lets see, we considered
mermaids. Coconut Trees was Elena Carpenters contribution. Meanwhile the world is movin on. Whenever someone makes a decision
let me know. I'll paint.
