Build the perfect Summer Smoothie

R
Here is a smoothie recipe, courtesy of one of our advertisers Fitness Together:

Nothing tastes better on a warm summer day than a fresh smoothie. Easy, cold, and refreshing, this is a great way to kick off your day or get your midday energy boost. Besides knowing and having control over everything that you put in, one of the best (and most fun) things about mixing up smoothies is that there are no rules! Customize your smoothie to fit your wants and needs and feel free to experiment.

One of the most important parts of a great smoothie is great, fresh ingredients. Check out the closest farmers market to choose some of the freshest ingredients in the area. Don’t limit yourself to fruits either! “Green smoothies” have made a breakthrough lately, allowing smoothie lovers to get all the benefits of their veggies, as well as fruit, in one delicious drink. A handful of spinach or kale is the perfect way to sneak in some extra veggie benefits for the day. If you are a rookie when it comes to mixing up green smoothies, try the 60/40 rule, 60% fruits and 40% vegetables. Try 2 cups leafy greens + 2 cups liquid base (water, almond milk, etc) + 3 cup ripe fruit. Blend your veggies and liquid first, then add your fruit and blend again. This is the best way to ensure no nasty chunks of greens.

Pump up your smoothie with a little protein as well. If you are a protein powder regular, go ahead and dump in a scoop. If not, try adding Greek yogurt, organic soymilk, or a scoop of Chia seeds. There are lots of options to take your smoothie to the next level.

Check out this super simple recipe, and give it a shot today!

Tropical Green Smoothie

•                2 cups fresh spinach
•                2 cups water
•                1 cup mango
•                1 cup pineapple
•                2 bananas

Try freezing your fruit for an extra chilly smoothie for the hottest Miami summer days. In your blender, combine the spinach and water first. Once that is well blended, add the fruit and blend until your desired smoothness.

Pour your smoothie into a cute cup, put on your shades, go outside, and enjoy your creation in the beautiful Miami summer!
